Obama: ‘The American Dream’ won’t be a reality without Obamacare

President Barack Obama says Americans are unlikely to be able to “live the American dream” without the Affordable Care Act.
Obama said Tuesday that a Republican replacement to the health care law won’t happen in the foreseeable future.
He told reporters at the White House that the goal is for Republicans to be in charge in 2019, but he would not commit to that.
He said if the Republican replacement is successful, “it will not be the American Dream.”
He said the health law is “going to have to survive” as long as the Affordable Act is in place.
Obama said he was “very confident” Republicans will win the 2019 midterm elections.
He said he believes the ACA will survive in 2020, if it’s not repealed.
“If the Republicans can do it, it’s going to be a very good thing.
I’m confident,” he said.”
I don’t think there’s a Republican president in this country who’s going do better than I have done.”
Obamacare is expected to be repealed by President Donald Trump by the end of the year.
Obama’s comments were his most direct criticism of Republican efforts to repeal the health reform law since the law was signed in 2010.
Trump has said he’s willing to make a deal with Republicans that keeps parts of the law intact, but says he won’t do so until Republicans are in control of the Senate.
Obama was the first sitting president to visit the White Houses of both parties during the Affordable Health Care Act’s early years.
On Tuesday, Obama spoke with former Vice President Joe Biden, Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and former President Bill Clinton of Arkansas, as well as several House Democrats.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Affordable Care Exchange opened in the fall of 2010 and provided coverage for about 18 million people, including about 5 million young adults.
About 20 million of those insured through the exchange qualified for Medicaid under the law, which expanded health coverage to the poor, the disabled and the elderly.
