When the Olympics comes to the Arctic, the Arctic will have a special significance

In the lead-up to the Olympics, scientists will be working with the U.S. military to help determine how the massive, remote region can be transformed for Olympic use.
But they won’t have to wait until the Games begin until they start seeing some of the Arctic’s most iconic artifacts.
The U.K.’s Ministry of Defence is planning to bring a fleet of ships to the ice floes, and an ice sculpture by Norwegian artist Mariano will be on display as a symbol of Arctic conservation.
The artist is known for creating work with Arctic flora and fauna, and his work will also be featured in a new exhibition at the Museum of Arctic Art in Seattle.
The exhibition, called The Arctic, will focus on the unique cultural and ecological features that make the Arctic so special, said Mariano.
“It’s the very heart of this world,” he said.
The exhibition will show how Arctic wildlife and art are protected in an attempt to make them available for international visitors. “
The fact that it’s the heart of the world means it has to be protected, and it has a certain amount of importance for me.”

It also has the potential to help the country’s tourism industry.
“We’re hoping that our exhibition will help people understand that there’s a connection between the Arctic and the world, that we need to understand that, and that there are places on the planet where you can see the Arctic,” said Marianos artistic director, Simon Smith.
“That’s important because we’re going to see the ice and we’re also going to witness the Arctic in the Arctic.”
In recent years, a lot of people have come to the North Pole to see what it’s like, said Smith.
There are also people who come to Antarctica to watch the ice break, he said, noting the polar regions are also home to wildlife, which can help the local economy.
“You can see some of these amazing wildlife on the ice,” he added.
“And that’s why we have such a big exhibition there.”
The ice sculptures have long been a popular sight, Smith said.
They are an easy target for the military, he added, because of the way they’re designed.
“They’re quite big and they’re quite hard to see,” he explained.
“But if you look close enough you can really see that they’re actually a bit of a challenge.”
The Arctic has the largest amount of ice on Earth at a depth of up to 2,000 metres.
Smith said the art pieces will be located at a location that’s close to the poles, because it’s easier to get the art there.
“I think it’s a very unique location, very beautiful, very polar,” he noted.
