How to fix your Spotify ads

Spotify ads will disappear from the app, but the streaming service is hoping it will be a boon to its ad revenue.
The company said Wednesday it will discontinue using ads on the streaming platform.
The move is part of a larger push to overhaul how ads work on the platform and make them more targeted.
“Spotify is going to make it easier for advertisers to target their ads on a specific type of content or a particular time of day,” Spotify Chief Product Officer Joe Boland said during an investor call.
Spotify said the new ad rules will require the company to use a different set of standards for advertising, such as an ad code that is more specific.
“This will mean that we will no longer have to create custom ad codes for each of our millions of users, so they won’t have to use our custom code when they click on an ad,” Boland added.
Spotify will continue to use an ad system that allows advertisers to buy specific types of ads, and the new rule means the streaming company will have to do the same.
Spotify is not alone in trying to reform how it manages its ads.
Facebook is also exploring a new set of rules for its ad platform, which is set to be rolled out to users in the coming weeks.
The social media giant has long been criticized for its heavy reliance on the ad network and has struggled to monetize its video platform, where it relies on ad revenue and other revenue streams.
The change comes as Spotify’s user base has grown dramatically in recent years, and many ad-supported users have moved to other platforms such as Netflix.
In February, Spotify closed its app for all users and started requiring users to subscribe to a service called AdSense, which allows companies to pay Spotify to be included in the service.
Facebook, which has more than 40 million users, is also looking to change how it handles its ads, including its use of ad networks to pay for them.
Last month, the social media company said it was cutting out the middleman and eliminating the cost of running ads in its News Feed, a feature that helped users keep up with the news.
