Real Madrid v Manchester United – the best game of the season: Who will win?
- by admin
Real Madrid and Manchester United will meet in the Champions League semi-final of the 2018/19 season on Thursday night at the Bernabeu, and it’s going to be a good game.
The first leg was played at Old Trafford last season, with Manchester United winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Angel Di Maria and Cristiano Ronaldo.
With the Champions league semi-finals on offer, and United having only just returned from a five-game layoff due to illness, this will be the second leg.
But the winner will have a huge advantage over the reigning Champions League champions.
The draw will take place at 2:30pm on Thursday evening.
Here’s what you need to know: Who wins?
Madrid’s team have won eight of their past 10 Champions League group stage games, including last season’s final victory over Juventus, when Ronaldo scored twice and the side went on to win the trophy in the last eight.
In contrast, Manchester United have won only one of their nine group stage encounters, and they’ve lost all but two of their 10 overall.
Manchester United are in pole position to win Group F with a two-goal lead over Real Madrid, and the home side are in the clear in the race for the top four.
But a victory for Manchester United would leave Real Madrid as the clear favourite to win it all, with Madrid winning the last two semi-finishes.
Who is going to score?
Real Madrid have scored in the opening two games of the Champions leaguewide final, including a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night.
Manchester City are second on 22 goals scored in this year’s competition, with five goals each from Sergio Aguero and Edinson Cavani.
Who’s ahead of who?
Real and Manchester have both lost their past two Group F meetings, with the Portuguese side winning the first leg 3-2 at Old Postecoglou’s Old Trafford in June and the United side beating Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium last season.
However, Manchester are still two points clear of Real, while Real have one point in their favour.
What are the chances of a tie?
In their previous two meetings, both Manchester sides have come out on top thanks to goal scoring from their respective strikers.
However in this match, Manchester will have to defend their lead and not let a penalty kick or goal in either half slip away.
If Manchester City score, Real Madrid will be looking to win on their home turf.
In the end, there is a good chance that both sides will score and win.
If Real score and Real Madrid lose, it could prove costly for both sides.
What will happen on the pitch?
In addition to the Champions final at Oldham in August, the two sides will meet again in a second round at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday.
This is the first time that both teams have faced each other since the 2006/07 season, and there have been some great battles between these two teams.
Manchester have scored four goals in the previous four games, while Madrid have conceded just one.
What happens next?
Real will have three games to make up their remaining four group stage points, and will be aiming to make it to the knockout stages.
Real Madrid are now only two points behind Manchester City, and could end up with a big advantage over United, with two points from three games still to play.
What is the result?
The draw takes place at 3:30 pm on Thursday, but will be shown live on Sky Sports.
